FAME Executive Director and endorsed teacher trainer Emily Maurek wanted to do a piece of American music, and naturally, George Gershwin fits that bill. The tune Rialto Ripples (1917) is his first published and commercial success. The piece was considered a ‘Novelty rag’ and was written for ‘piano roll’, which was the standard of the day. I wanted to get the flavor of the Ragtime era in the movements to celebrate the culture of the time, a big thanks to YouTube for assisting with movement ideas!! The recording in the video is an orchestral version of the original by the Cincinnati Pops.
