FIRST STEPS for INFANTS and TODDLERS SESSION For generations, the songs and rhymes of American folk culture have delighted children, creating a “hushed wonder” at playtime. No fireworks, no crazy musical arrangements, just adult and child connecting with rhymes and music. These treasures once were passed from parent or grandparent to child, yet in recent years, with changes in technology and family structure, they have been in danger of being lost and forgotten. First Steps in Music for Infants and Toddlers brings back the music and poetry of America! Activities of Lullabies, Wiggles and Tickles, Bounces, Tapping and Clapping, Simple Songs and Circles Games filled with the type of educational play parents and teachers crave! These Rhymes, songs, and games bring our heritage to the newest generation by connecting them to a rich repertoire of folk music while building their musical sensibilities, which can help in their appreciation and understanding of music later in life!
FIRST STEPS IN MUSIC: VOCAL and MOVEMENT DEVELOPMENT IN THE EARLY YEARS SESSION
During the early learning years, children can acquire musical sensitivities, which will provide them with a lifetime of expressive and accurate singing and movement intuitions. This lively session will present insights and activities that can foster those intuitions in children from three to age nine, through the use of folk songs and games and through movement experiences with classical music.
April 20 – 21 at Lane Community College in Eugene Oregon
