Struggling to transition your elementary students into confident choral singers? With school cultures and schedules increasingly giving less time to the arts, it can be challenging to nurture successful student singers from early elementary Tuneful, Beatful, and Artful activities into upper elementary choral singers due to student matriculation. Consistently scheduling singing time in each lesson and building off of the Tuneful part of the FSM workout by using familiar FSM & CS song collections such as the Books of Echo Songs, Call and Response, and Canons, as well as CS Level 2, students practice singing together in harmony, and teachers have a ready opportunity to address important cornerstone singing lessons about breathing, tone quality, and listening. This approach to class singing time gives students the stepping stones to organically grow the musical independence necessary for a fulfilling upper elementary choral experience and beyond.
This mini-course is intended for educators who are already using the First Steps in Music for Preschool and Beyond curriculum in their programs and are looking for ways to transition students from early Tuneful activities to confident choral singers using familiar FSM & CS repertoire. It is perfect for busy educators aiming to build harmony and musical independence as students move towards upper elementary choral experience.
